A New Leash On Training

You and your pet can also meet Joel Silverman at Artown's 13th Annual Art Paws, Sun July 21, 10am to 5pm, at McKinley Arts & Cultural Center, Reno.

JOEL SILVERMAN: Bow Wow!

Joel Silverman, a Hollywood animal trainer and pet training author is coming to Artown’s 13th Annual Art Paws!  With a long list of TV and film credits, Joel is a much sought after Hollywood animal trainer with more than 30 years of national experience with all shapes and sizes of animals.

Joel kicked off his career at the age of sixteen, at Sea World, picking up trash and studying the animals.  He was promoted to a Marine Mammal Trainer, training such mammals as dolphins, sea lions, and killer whales. From Sea World, Joel went on to work at Universal Studios in Hollywood, CA.

"For the past 15 years, Joel had been responsible for the coordination and training of the dogs and cats in the IAMS commercial and print ads. On the big screen, he worked with Russell Crowe in France as he trained “Tati,” the Jack Russell terrier, in the feature A Good Year. He also trained the big dog named “Dreyfuss” from the tv series Empty Nest from 1998 to 2002.

“I am very excited to participate in Art Paws,” said Joel.  “I will be there with my own dog, Foster, to answer questions, sign books, and give a free half-hour seminar at 11:00am.”

Joel is a top dog kind of dog trainer.  Joel received the “2008 Trainer of the Year Award,” which was presented at the Westminster Dog Show in 2009. And Joel has been responsible for the coordinating/training of dogs and cats for the IAMS national commercials and print ads for more than 15 years.  He hosted a very successful Animal Planet show "Good Dog U" which ran from 1999 to 2009, and within a few weeks of its first airing, became one of the highest rated weekend shows on Animal Planet.

Artown’s 13th Annual Art Paws, sun. July 21, 2013, at Mckinley Arts and Cultural Center, Reno, will be a canine carnival of fun. The fact that Joel Silverman will be there will just add to the experience and allow for education for you and your dog!

METHOD

Joel’s uses what he calls a ‘hybrid” style to teach dogs. He uses much of what he learned as a marine mammal trainer, and much of what he has learned through his career as a Hollywood Dog Trainer. This style is based on two things:
  • Building a great relationship with your dog PRIOR to training
  • Understanding that all dogs are different; What works for one may not work for another
  • As a motion picture and TV dog trainer, Joel had no choice other than to teach dogs to understand control and distance. Distance is key.
BOOKS

Joel has authored three books:
  • “What Color is Your Dog?” (2009)
  • “Take 2 – Training Solutions for Rescued Dogs” (2010)
  • “Bond With Your Heart; Train With Your Brain” (Winter/2012)
In 2012, Joel came out with his new nationally syndicated TV series, “DOG & CAT TRAINING WITH JOEL SILVERMAN,” which airs every Saturday morning at 7:30 am on the CW Reno/My 21 TV in Reno.
Currently Joel lives in Reno, Nevada.

You Outta Be In Pictures! TV Stars and Dog Lovers Wanted

Ever dream of adopting a dog AND becoming a TV star? Here’s your opportunity!

Joel Silverman, a Hollywood animal trainer, issued a casting call for the second season of Dog & Cat Training with Joel Silverman last month. He still needs people! He's seeking several local animal lovers who would like to adopt a dog from Nevada Humane Society on camera. Adopters will have the benefit of Silverman’s expert advice in selecting a dog that will be an ideal fit for their personality and lifestyle.

Casting for these roles will require a series of interviews immediately with taping planned to begin in late March. If you're interested in vying for a spot on Dog & Cat Training with Joel Silverman, contact Joel directly at 661-713-8832 or info@companionsforlife.net.

“Animals from shelters make some of the very best pets,” said Silverman. “I believe that they know that we are doing something for them when we adopt them. As a movie trainer, I can tell you that every mixed-breed pet you see on television came from an animal shelter. Even many of the purebred dogs you see come from shelters or breed rescue groups.”

Silverman’s show airs every Saturday morning at 7:30 am on the CW Reno/My 21 TV in Reno.

Silverman has 30 years of experience training animals for television, movies and commercials. He is also the author of two books: What Color Is Your Dog and Take 2: Training Solutions for Rescued Dogs. A third book is in progress.
