Law Enforcement K9s Compete in Reno Saturday, October 13

Dozens of law enforcement and military K9 teams are coming to Reno to compete in the 2013 Western States Police Canine Association’s End of the Year Trials.

The patrol phase of the competition is open to the public and the media and begins at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 13, on the football field at Bishop Manogue High School.

Patrol phase competition includes agility courses, obedience tests, a search exercise, and  a protection and apprehension phase.

This year’s trials are hosted by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the Sparks Police Department and Nevada Highway Patrol.

Competition is open to all full time law enforcement and military K9 teams. There is also a category for retired canines and Reserve K9 Units.

Western States Police Canine Association (WSPCA) is a non-profit organization committed to promoting strong police K9 programs and training that enhance law enforcement services. Saturday, Support the SPCA at the Atlantis Gala!

SPCA of Northern Nevada’s
Love Life Gala 2012
Tickets still available for the gala

Reno, Nevada – The SPCA of Northern Nevada is holding their annual fundraising Love Life Gala on Saturday, October 6 at the Atlantis Hotel Casino and Spa. The event, which is inspired by Frank Sinatra, will feature Jimmy Brewster from Los Angeles.  The evening begins with a VIP reception at 5 p.m. and the dinner and entertainment begin at 6 p.m.  The VIP reception includes a meet and greet with Jimmy Brewster and complimentary food and beverage.  There will be a raffle and live and silent auction.

Jimmy Brewster recreates the Sinatra phenomenon through an exciting stage show
which captures the classic romance of ole’ blue eyes in his prime! Brewster entices the audience to “Come Fly With Me” and remember why only the king of ring-a-ding-ding could do it so well “My Way.”

The evening will be emceed by Jeff Martinez who is the new KTVN Channel 2 News Morning Meteorologist. Jeff has called Northern Nevada his home for the past 12 years and has had a life-long love for animals. As a boy he was raised on a ranch in New Mexico where his family had horses, goats, cats & dogs. Jeff and his daughter Julia have been volunteering at the SPCA for the past several months and enjoy spending time with the animals and helping them find a good home, and spreading the word about the SPCA stands.

SPCA of Northern Nevada recognizes the outstanding efforts members of our community make in support of animals. We will be honoring Judi Howard and Ross & Barbara Steffner from Washoe Valley Pet Pantry.

“The SPCA of Northern Nevada is proud of the support the community has given us throughout the years’.  This is an exciting event for us and allows us to socialize with the people who make our work possible. All the proceeds stay right here in Northern Nevada to benefit the homeless animals in our community,” said Tom Jacobs, Executive Director of the SPCA of Northern Nevada.

Ticket prices start at $65 for the dinner and entertainment portion of the evening and $100 to include the VIP reception. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Tickets can be purchased at http://spcalovelifegala-rss.eventbrite.com  or 775-324-7773 x204. Tickets can also be purchased at the door on Saturday, October 6.  For more information about the SPCA of Northern Nevada, please visit spcanevada.org.
