Dude NEEDS YOUR Help! NOW! Right NOW!

Dude Deserves To Be Evaluated and a Chance to Live

To: Washoe County Sheriff Michael Haley

Dear Sheriff Haley,
I’m in trouble and need some help. My dog parents did not understand or seek legal advice and I got labeled DANGEROUS by the law. I have been really good and just got in trouble; 10 days shy of my probation.
The Washoe County Animal Services wants to KILL me.
I’ve been in jail since January 28th 2013 and am scared and would like to go home. I miss my family and the other doggies here are really scary; barking and growling at my family when they come to visit.
I was rescued when I was a puppy from the SPCA. I am a neutered male Pit Bull Mix and have all of shots and current licensing. I am a family dog. Even though I am about 8 years old, I have a lot of puppy energy which has been mistaken for aggressive behavior. I am a good dog. In the past, my dog parents have not been so diligent in keeping me from roaming at large. This caused me to have too much freedom per the law. Due to my breed and high energy behavior it caused a little panic and scared some of my newer neighbors. I alert/bark, and have ran towards people to get attention. It got me in big trouble. The neighbors who have lived next to me since I was a puppy know and love me; I am not a dangerous dog. I do love people and only want to play. Please come visit me in jail and see for yourself. You can also visit me on facebook at facebook.com/reno.dudedog.
I would like to be released so a certified dog trainer can work with me on my behavior. My dog family is devastated and has spent a lot of time and money making sure that my environment is in compliance.
I am not a threat and have found a professional who wants to help me. Ashwin with AmaZulu K9 in Reno, Nevada has already spoken to my family.
Please allow me to be release so Ashwin with AmaZulu K9 can professionally evaluate me. I would like to be able to present to the Judge a fair evaluation of my behavior and proof that I deserve to live.
Animals are often misunderstood and Pit Bull breeds are commonly discriminated against. Our beloved pets protect us and love us. Dude is a loving dog and has never maliciously hurt anyone. Pets get in trouble when we as owners don't provide them the direction they need. The law on dangerous dogs is very vague and opinionated; lacking professional oversight and does not require the dog or owner to receive the help they need to overcome and live full happy lives together. Dude is a good family dog and deserves a chance to work with a professional. He is a smart, loving dog. He should be released to a professional for some training and a fair evaluation. His life depends on it.

You Outta Be In Pictures! TV Stars and Dog Lovers Wanted

Ever dream of adopting a dog AND becoming a TV star? Here’s your opportunity!

Joel Silverman, a Hollywood animal trainer, issued a casting call for the second season of Dog & Cat Training with Joel Silverman last month. He still needs people! He's seeking several local animal lovers who would like to adopt a dog from Nevada Humane Society on camera. Adopters will have the benefit of Silverman’s expert advice in selecting a dog that will be an ideal fit for their personality and lifestyle.

Casting for these roles will require a series of interviews immediately with taping planned to begin in late March. If you're interested in vying for a spot on Dog & Cat Training with Joel Silverman, contact Joel directly at 661-713-8832 or info@companionsforlife.net.

“Animals from shelters make some of the very best pets,” said Silverman. “I believe that they know that we are doing something for them when we adopt them. As a movie trainer, I can tell you that every mixed-breed pet you see on television came from an animal shelter. Even many of the purebred dogs you see come from shelters or breed rescue groups.”

Silverman’s show airs every Saturday morning at 7:30 am on the CW Reno/My 21 TV in Reno.

Silverman has 30 years of experience training animals for television, movies and commercials. He is also the author of two books: What Color Is Your Dog and Take 2: Training Solutions for Rescued Dogs. A third book is in progress.

Siamese Kitty Needs New HOME!!!! can you help?!

Need help finding homes for these two Siamese mixes!
(they do not need to go to a home together)

Brittany (‘Poof’) – est. 8 year old spayed female long haired Siamese mix – is front declawed
Tends to be shy, would do best in calm home, does ok with dogs but not fond of them.  Does well with other cats but tends to be picked on so wouldn’t do well in home with dominant cats.  No medical problems.  Likes to have her fur brushed.  Does tend to chew things if given the opportunity (such as plants).  Loves to be a lap cat, has never had an issue with the litter box, not a biter.  Very sweet cat who needs a calm, stable home.
Image
Beau – est. 7 year old neutered male long haired Siamese mix – is front declawed
Fun cat, very outgoing.  Will lay on his back for a belly rub.  No issues with other cats.  No issues with the litter box.  Is vocal about being fed.  Does well with brushing of coat which needs regular care.  He did receive a lion-cut this past summer which looked cute.  Does well with dogs.  Will jump on counters.  Nice cat who will make a great addition to a mature home (neither are used to being around children).

Please call Michele at 335-9912 or e-mail mountainvet@msn.com for further information.

Thank you for helping find a good home for these great cats.

Who's A Good Dog?! Traveling Long Distance or locally with your Pet??

Tips for Travel to the Nation's Best Hotels and How to Eat Out in Reno with Your Dog!

Puppy love!  Although the news everywhere is that the U.S. economy as a whole is "in the dog bowl," last year Americans lavished $53 billion on their pets' food, veterinary care, kennels, and other services.
The American Pet Products Association's research shows that is a 5% increase from 2011. APPA President and CEO Bob Vetere predicts another 4% gain this year as pet enthusiasts "share the love."  Founded in 1958, APPA is the leading not-for-profit trade association made up of over 1000 pet product manufacturers,
According to the APPA:

$34.3 billion was spent on food and vet care, representing about two-thirds of total spending on pets.

Spending on the growing market of alternative vet care, such as acupuncture, totaled about $12.5 billion.
Vetere says spending on services like grooming, boarding, hotels and pet-sitting grew nearly 10 percent during 2012 to almost $4.4 billion.

Locally, pet people are getting out more, too.  The number of outdoor restaurants in Reno, for example, that allow dining with pets is growing by leaps and bounds.  This is a list of where you can take your pup, courtesy of DogFriendly.com:
