Reno's Own "A Beloved Friends Pet Crematory" Wins National Accreditation

THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF PET CEMETERIES & CREMATORIES (IAOPCC) NAMES FIRST ACCREDITED PET CREMATORY FACILITY IN THE NATION
A Beloved Friends Pet Crematory of Northern Nevada  -
First in the Nation to Pass Pet Crematory Accreditation

Atlanta, Georgia – April 15, 2014 – The International Association of Pet Cemeteries and Crematories (IAOPCC) has announced the first Pet Crematory facility in the nation to pass its Accreditation Program.  A Beloved Friends Pet Crematory of Northern Nevada received its Accreditation award on April 1, 2014.

Pet Parents can now feel reassured about the care their deceased animal receives now that the new worldwide Accreditation Standards have been announced for pet cemeteries and crematories by the International Association of Pet Cemeteries and Crematories (IAOPCC).

Founded in 1971, the IAOPCC is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing the standards, ethics and professionalism of pet cemeteries and crematories worldwide.

In an unprecedented and historical firstthe IAOPCC is the only organization with published recommended procedures for every step of the pet cremation process, including, transportation, each type of pet cremation, readily retrievable records, facility standards and continuing education for pet crematorium staff members.  Following five years of study and research, these Accreditation standards, processes, and program of inspections were rolled out in January of 2014 across the United States, Canada, and worldwide to its Members.  Since 2009 the IAOPCC Standards Committee, a group of eight pet crematory owners and operators located throughout the US and Canada, have met monthly to develop these intense and rigorous standards.

A Beloved Friends Pet Crematory of Northern Nevada, in Reno, was the first pet crematory in the country to complete this inspection process.  Before applying in March 2014 to become accredited, owners, Steve and Elaine Woodshad spent several months prior examining its systems, processes, and procedures to be sure every aspect met the IAOPCC’s standards of quality.  After a thorough review and inspection, they were awarded Accreditation status on April 1, 2014.

Through the IAOPCC’s Accreditation Program, pet crematories are evaluated against a pool of more than 240 standards representing the best practices in pet cremation care and management. An international task force of crematory operators created and continually update the standards to reflect the latest developments and improvements in pet aftercare care, pet cremation techniques, records, cleanliness, staff and client safety, and areas essential to excellent pet and client care.

In an industry requiring very little oversight, other than environmental regulations and business licensing, pet aftercare has been largely a self-regulated profession.  Currently there are only 2 statesIllinois and New York, in the United States that have any legal standards for pet cremation.  With the introduction of the IAOPCC Accreditation Program, the IAOPCC has given the industry and the pet owner a measure of protection regarding the integrity of the pet aftercare processes from those pet crematories who seek out Accreditation and inspection.

Nevada Humane Society’s
Walk for Animals
May 24, 2014, Sparks Marina
Don’t miss the 7th annual Walk for Animals, this Saturday, May 24 at Sparks Marina—an exciting, fun event to benefit homeless pets at Nevada Humane Society. The goal of the event is to raise $100,000 to help provide care and find homes for the more than 15,000 pets expected to pass through the shelter this year.
Sponsored by Petco Foundation, the Walk for Animals kicks off at 9am. Registration opens at 8am and festivities continue until 1pm. The public is welcome to bring their dogs on leashes (or cats) and spend a fun day in the park.
“We’re expecting over 1,000 walkers, many with their canine companions,” said Kevin Ryan, Chief Executive Officer for Nevada Humane Society. “This event is so important because the funds help homeless pets who arrive at our shelter daily. In 2013, over 12,000 animals were treated through Nevada Humane Society, and we expect to care for even more this year. You can feel good knowing that your support made a difference, as we consistently have one of the highest save rates in the nation.”
Festivities at the Walk for Animals include a variety of exhibitors, pet adoptions, pet contests, entertainment, refreshments and more. In addition, Nevada Humane Society will be providing low-cost vaccines and microchips for all pets on a first-come, first-served basis.
Registration for the Walk for Animals may be done online or by using a printed brochure. Walkers who raise $35 or more receive a t-shirt and those who raise more receive additional prizes. More information, including the downloadable brochure, is available at NevadaHumaneSociety.org.

Nevada Humane Society Walk for Animals--May 24--Is a walk in the park!!!!

Low-Cost Vaccine, Microchip Clinic Offered at Nevada Humane Society’s Walk for Animals, May 24, at Sparks Marina

Nevada Humane Society’s Walk for Animals is about a week away—happening this year on Saturday, May 24 at Sparks Marina. While animal lovers are asked to help raise $100,000 for homeless pets, the public is also invited to bring their pets for a special low-cost vaccine and microchip clinic, being held during the Walk for Animals from 8am until 1pm. Cost for the services, which include basic vaccines, rabies, and microchips, ranges from $10 to $18.

“The Walk is an exciting, fun event but we wanted to give back to the community even more this year by offering these services. We know there will be hundreds of people out with their dogs, and there’s no better time to get them vaccinated and chipped, a service that provides for the dogs but also to their people,” said Kimberly Wade, Senior Manager of Communications and Events for Nevada Humane Society. “The vaccines are low-cost and proceeds directly benefit homeless pets.”
Nevada Humane Society’s Walk for Animals is next Saturday, May 24, at Sparks Marina, kicking off at 9am with a leisurely two mile walk around the marina. Leashed dogs (and cats) are welcome. Registration opens at 8am and festivities continue until 1pm.
Walkers who raise $35 or more receive a t-shirt and those who raise more receive additional prizes, including admission into the VIP tent. Everyone is welcome to enjoy refreshments, entertainment, pet contests, pet adoptions, exhibitors and more. The Walk for Animals is made possible by sponsor Petco Foundation.
Registration for the Walk for Animals may be done online or by using a printed brochure, which is available also online, at the shelter or at one of many local businesses. More information is available at NevadaHumaneSociety.org.

Make Your Donation DOUBLE--when you give to Pets of the Homeless, now until Sept

Donation-matching mission in full swing to benefit pets that belong to the homeless

A donation-matching challenge, issued by The WHC Foundation of Reno to Feeding Pets of the Homeless of Carson City, will help pets that belong to the homeless in Northern Nevada.
From now until September, WCH Foundation will match donations up to $10,000.  The money will be used to provide pet food to area food banks; for emergency veterinary care for pets that belong to the Northern Nevada homeless population; and for sponsorship of at least two Wellness Clinics during the year in downtown Reno.
Nationally, since 2008, POTH has treated over 10,000 pets of the homeless with veterinary care and POTH 475 member collection sites have reported over 265 tons of pet food has been taken to food banks in their respective communities.

Horsemanship 1 (9:00AM) and Horsemanship 2 (1:30PM).

Horsemanship 1

For the green horse and rider already comfortable in the snaffle bit along with aged horses needing continued work.  This is the first stage of progressing into the bridle with all basic movements introduced.  All levels of riders - no matter what discipline - will benefit.  The class features strictly dry work - no cattle.  All maneuvers stress the vaquero style of riding and are appropriate for horses from first level snaffle to experienced bridle horses.  Hackmore horses welcome.

Horsemanship 2

The next phase in the development of the versatile bridle horse.  Horsemanship 2 introduces the rider to working the horse in the hackmore and beyond.  Horsemanship 1 is a prerequisite for enrolling in Horsemanship 2 unless otherwise approved by Buck.  The class involves working cattle and ranch roping so that all aspects in preparing the bridle horse-in-the-making are addressed.
