Animal Lovers NEEDED!

Help Raise $100,000 for Homeless Pets at
Nevada Humane Society’s
Walk for Animals
May 24, 2014, Sparks Marina
Don’t miss the 7th annual Walk for Animals, this Saturday, May 24 at Sparks Marina—an exciting, fun event to benefit homeless pets at Nevada Humane Society. The goal of the event is to raise $100,000 to help provide care and find homes for the more than 15,000 pets expected to pass through the shelter this year.
Sponsored by Petco Foundation, the Walk for Animals kicks off at 9am. Registration opens at 8am and festivities continue until 1pm. The public is welcome to bring their dogs on leashes (or cats) and spend a fun day in the park.
“We’re expecting over 1,000 walkers, many with their canine companions,” said Kevin Ryan, Chief Executive Officer for Nevada Humane Society. “This event is so important because the funds help homeless pets who arrive at our shelter daily. In 2013, over 12,000 animals were treated through Nevada Humane Society, and we expect to care for even more this year. You can feel good knowing that your support made a difference, as we consistently have one of the highest save rates in the nation.”
Festivities at the Walk for Animals include a variety of exhibitors, pet adoptions, pet contests, entertainment, refreshments and more. In addition, Nevada Humane Society will be providing low-cost vaccines and microchips for all pets on a first-come, first-served basis.
Registration for the Walk for Animals may be done online or by using a printed brochure. Walkers who raise $35 or more receive a t-shirt and those who raise more receive additional prizes. More information, including the downloadable brochure, is available at NevadaHumaneSociety.org.

Nevada Humane Society Walk for Animals--May 24--Is a walk in the park!!!!

Low-Cost Vaccine, Microchip Clinic Offered at Nevada Humane Society’s Walk for Animals, May 24, at Sparks Marina

Nevada Humane Society’s Walk for Animals is about a week away—happening this year on Saturday, May 24 at Sparks Marina. While animal lovers are asked to help raise $100,000 for homeless pets, the public is also invited to bring their pets for a special low-cost vaccine and microchip clinic, being held during the Walk for Animals from 8am until 1pm. Cost for the services, which include basic vaccines, rabies, and microchips, ranges from $10 to $18.

“The Walk is an exciting, fun event but we wanted to give back to the community even more this year by offering these services. We know there will be hundreds of people out with their dogs, and there’s no better time to get them vaccinated and chipped, a service that provides for the dogs but also to their people,” said Kimberly Wade, Senior Manager of Communications and Events for Nevada Humane Society. “The vaccines are low-cost and proceeds directly benefit homeless pets.”
Nevada Humane Society’s Walk for Animals is next Saturday, May 24, at Sparks Marina, kicking off at 9am with a leisurely two mile walk around the marina. Leashed dogs (and cats) are welcome. Registration opens at 8am and festivities continue until 1pm.
Walkers who raise $35 or more receive a t-shirt and those who raise more receive additional prizes, including admission into the VIP tent. Everyone is welcome to enjoy refreshments, entertainment, pet contests, pet adoptions, exhibitors and more. The Walk for Animals is made possible by sponsor Petco Foundation.
Registration for the Walk for Animals may be done online or by using a printed brochure, which is available also online, at the shelter or at one of many local businesses. More information is available at NevadaHumaneSociety.org.

Reno's Nevada Humane Society Recognized As A Great Charity

Nevada Humane Society Receives Inaugural
Better Business Bureau Accredited Charity Seal

Nevada Humane Society was recently awarded the inaugural Better Business Bureau (BBB) accredited charity seal, which carries vital importance for both donors and charities. Only organizations that come through a BBB review with a “meets all standards” conclusion are eligible to participate in the seal program.
“Charities that display the BBB Accredited Charity Seal can do so with pride,” says Timothy Johnston, President and CEO of Better Business Bureau serving Northern Nevada. “Not only are they attesting to their organizations’ adherence to sound standards, they are helping to increase donor confidence and strengthen public trust in giving.”
According to the BBB, when this seal is present, it represents that Nevada Humane Society has met the BBB Wise Giving Alliance Standards for Charity Accountability. This process involved rigorous scrutiny of a Nevada Humane Society’s governance, effectiveness, finances and solicitations and informational materials—standards that go beyond what government regulators require. A visual of the seal is below.
“Nevada Humane Society is proud to have been awarded this prestigious and important accreditation from the BBB,” said Kevin Ryan, Chief Executive Officer for Nevada Humane Society. “It is demonstrative of NHS’ dedication to our cause and our open, honest relationship with our donors. NHS spends donor dollars incredibly shrewdly and we work diligently, daily to continue to prove to our community that NHS is a sound investment. Another feather in our cap, NHS is quickly becoming one of Northern Nevada’s most honored charities.”
Nevada Humane Society is open for adoptions seven days a week, from 11:00am to 6:30pm and an hour earlier at 10:00am on Saturdays. The shelter is located at 2825 Longley Lane in Reno.
